No dar papaya

Don't give any papayas!  In Colombia this means you should be careful not to make yourself a target. Or similarly, not to let someone take advantage of you.

The phrase implies that if you are careless, you are giving something valuable (the papaya) to a thief.

Giving a papaya could be as simple as walking around with your phone in your hand or wearing expensive jewelry and both could be easily stolen.

It's origin is uncertain but it may have been referring to the papaya because, like fruit, if you leave it out, someone will take it or it could spoil.

"No dar papaya" is sometimes referred to as the 11th commandment in Colombia!
